Apple and Location info

A lot has been made over the last few days about
Apple “collecting” location information. My own take
on this is that it is no big deal. The iPhone is
aware of where in the world it is so it can give you
location aware information for such apps as Maps,
Foursquare , etc. The fact that it keeps a general
list of cell towers and wi-fi networks it has been
near is not surprising and I love the fact the phone
knows where it is. Apparently Apple is going to
shorten the time this info is kept and not transfer
the file to your desktop computer when you sync.
There is also talk of encrypting the file. These
changes will probably be put in place with the next
iOS upgrade and I have no problem with any of it.
Kudos to Apple also for taking their time to study
the issue before releasing a press statement. That
way when they do say something it is studied and
accurate and not subject to correction because it was
responded to too quickly.
